Why I set up a college in UK - Chief Segun Phillips

A Sociology graduate of the University of Lagos, Chief Segun Phillips, has said that the urge to contribute to internationalisation of education and contribute to human development informed his decision to establish Peacock College, a professional and degree-awarding institution, in the United Kingdom.

Phillips added that the urge to prove to foreigners that not all Nigerians are crooks also contributed to his setting up of the institution, which has received the International Student Association accreditation to deliver professional and academic degree and postgraduate programmes.

The UK-based college, established in 2012, has also been approved as a candidate for accreditation by the British Accreditation Council for Independent Further and Higher Education.

Speaking with newsmen on Monday, Phillips, who retired from the Federal Civil Service to launch into tour and travel business, advised Nigerians who desire to be on their own never to entertain fear.

“When we started the institution, I knew we would not have problems getting accreditation because Europeans respect laws and if you can follow their rules to the letter, where you come from would not matter. That is why we are excited at the progress so far made by the institution,” he said.

He explained that with the accreditation granted by the institution by the ISA, the college had qualified to offer certificate, diploma and degree programmes in its main campus in London.

The college Principal, Mr. Zenon Adamek, a Briton, in an online statement, added that the college was able to achieve this feat because of the hard work, transparency and its passion for development.

He added that Peacock has been drawing upon the experience and expertise of academics, professionals working in the pertinent industries and colleagues with wealth of practice and knowledge to deliver professional academic programmes in Business Management, Health and Social Care, Hospitality Travel and Tours and Information Technology.
