ADMISSION INTO UNIBEN POSTGRADUATE DIPLOMA (PGD) IN ACCOUNTING FOR 2013 SESSION NOW OPEN!

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for admission into the Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) in accounting leading to the award of Postgraduate Diploma degree in the Institutes of University of Benin for 2013/2014 academic session.


ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

1. Candidates admitted into the Postgraduate Diploma programme in Accounting shall possess a minimum five credit passes including English language and mathematics at the Olevel.

2. A Bachelor Degree not lower than third class division from recognized Universities.

3. Bachelors Degree with at least second class lower division in areas not related accounting may be considered.

4. Higher National Diploma at upper credit level Any other relevant professional qualifications.

DURATION OF THE PROGRAMME:

The entire 42 credits ¨C Programme could be completed in twelve calendar months. coursework is spread over two semesters or twelve (12) calendar months.

B) M.SC ACCOUNTING PROGRAMME (Full and Part-Time)

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS.

1. Candidates admitted into the M.Sc. programme in Accounting shall possess a minimum of second Class Upper Division in accounting from University of Benin or any other recognized University.

2. Candidates with Second Class Lower Division in Accounting from University of Benin or any other recognized University and those with Higher National Diploma (HND) upper division must possess additional qualifications such as PGD in Accounting, ICAN, MBA,MBF or M.Sc. Economics to be eligible for admission.

3. Holders of professional qualifications in Accounting will also be considered for admission, provided the candidates possess additional qualifications such as PG Diploma in Accounting, PG Diploma in Taxation, PG Diploma in Forensic Accounting, MBA, MBF or Masters in related discipline.

4. A professional qualification in Accounting will be taken to mean an Associate member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria ICAN, ANAN, CITN or any other equivalent body.

5. Inexceptional cases, candidates with atleast second class lower in any social science, or Accounting Education, or Management science or science discipline, may be considered,

provided such candidate must make up for the deficiencies in core accounting courses at the undergraduate level.

Candidates may be required to satisfy the Department in an oral interview or written examination or both prior to admission. All M.Sc. degree programs of the department are by thesis.

DURATION (FULL-TIME M.Sc. PROGRAMME)

The full-time M.Sc. programme covers a coursework period of twelve (12) calendar months or three academic semesters.

The minimum duration is 24 calendar months and maximum is 36 months or 3 academic sessions.

DURATION (PART-TIME M.Sc. PROGRAMME)

The Part-Time M.Sc programme covers a course work period of 18 calendar months or four academic semesters. In all, there will be six terms of three months each.

Maximum duration for part-time is 48 calendar months.

C) M.SC FORENSIC ACCOUNTING OPTION ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS.

1. Candidates admitted into the M.Sc. programme in Forensic Accounting shall possess a minimum of second Class Upper Division in accounting from University of Benin or any other recognized University.

2. Candidates with Second Class Lower Division in Accounting from University of Benin or any other recognized University and those with Higher National Diploma (HND) upper division must possess additional qualifications such as PGD in Accounting, ICAN, MBA,MBF or M.Sc.

Economics to be eligible for admission.

3. Holders of professional qualifications in Accounting will also be considered for admission, provided the candidates possess additional qualifications such as PG Diploma in Accounting, MBA, MBF or Masters in related discipline.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

1. Candidates admitted into the M.Sc. programme in Taxation shall possessa minimum of second Class Upper Division in accounting from University of Benin or any other recognized University.

2. Candidates with Second Class Lower Division in Accounting from University of Benin or any other recognized University and those with Higher National Diploma (HND) upper division must possess additional qualifications such as PGD in Accounting, ICAN, MBA,MBF or M.Sc. Economics to be eligible for admission.

3. Holders of professional qualifications in Accounting will also be considered for admission, provided the candidates possess additional qualifications such as PG Diploma in Accounting, MBA, MBF or Masters in related discipline.

E.) MASTER OF PHILOSOPHY ACCOUNTING(MPHIL) OPTION

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS.

1. Candidates admitted into the MPHILL programme in Accounting shall possess a minimum of second Class Upper Division in any other discipline except accounting from University of Benin or any other recognized University.

Candidates with Second Class Lower Division in other discipline from University of Benin or any other recognized University and those with Higher National Diploma (HND) upper division must possess additional qualifications such as PGD in Accounting, ICAN, MBA, MBF or M.Sc. Economics to be eligible for admission.

Holders of professional qualifications in Accounting will also be considered for admission, provided the candidates possess additional qualifications such as PG Diploma in Accounting, MBA, MBF or Masters in related discipline.

Candidates applying for M.Phil. Programme in accounting are expected to possess aMaster of Science (M.Sc.) degree in accounting with a minimum average of 50% from the University of Benin or any other University approved by the Senate of the University of Benin.

Candidates may be required to satisfy the Department in an oral interview or written examination or both prior to admission.

All M.Sc. degree programs of the department are by thesis.

DURATION OF THE PROGRAMME

The course is one year in duration followed by a thesis for a total of 18 credit hours.

F) DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY (PhD) DEGREE IN ACCOUNTING

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Admission into the PhD (Accounting) programme is open:

1. To candidates who already possess the degree of Master of Sciences in Accounting with a minimum, cumulative weighted average of 60% or a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.50 on a 5-point scale, OR 2. 3. M.Sc. (with thesis) in Accounting from a recognized University, OR Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) in Accounting from any other Universityrecognized by University of Benin Senate.

4. In Exceptional Cases, candidates with a minimum, cumulative weighted average of 60% or a cumulative Grade Point Average of 3.50 (on a 5-point scale) in a Master of Science Degree in related fields may be considered provided that such candidates also possess, in addition to the Master Degree, a Bachelor of Science Degreein Accounting not below second classlower division.

Candidates admitted under (4) above will be required to take and pass some core Accounting courses from the M.Sc. Accounting Programme of the University of Benin. This is in addition to the prescribed courses at the doctorate level. 5. For the avoidance of doubt a prospective student must score an average of 60% in all the master degree courses as well as a minimumscore of 60% in a master degree project/thesis to be eligible for admission.

DURATION OF PROGRAMME

Duration 36- 84 Calendar months.

The school of Postgraduate studies may approve an extension where necessary.
