Medical students in UNIABUJA demand N10m compensation each

University of Abuja Medical students has demanded 10million compensation for each student. The students who launched another protest on Monday over what they referred to as deliberated negligence from
the part of the management of the institution, and the federal government over their plight, said a compensation is mandatory due to the years they have wasted in the institution.

The students, who disrupted activities within the Main Campus, disrupted exams which were expected to commence today for the Distance Learning students.
They also barricaded the highway, making it difficult for road users to pass, and said their request to be transferred to other institutions like their counterparts in the other affected departments had been kept in the cooler while time was going. Security personnel were invited to disperse the students.
The information and publications unit of the school informed newsmen that the demands of the student is ridiculous. The officer who would craved anonymity, said "The students are demanding that they should be transferred to other universities, the institution should be closed and reasons not given. They are also asking for N10 million compensation for each student.
He further noted that a committee has been set up to investigate the matter and also to dialogue with the students, after which it will provide possible solutions.
It has been recalled that medicine is one of the courses that fell short of Nigerian Universities Commission (NUC), yet the institution kept awarding admissions to unsuspecting students.
