As part of its resolve to focus on training of
sub-specialization in orthopaedics as well as improve orthopaedic care,
the School of Post Basic Nursing Studies, National Orthopaedic Hospital,
Igbobi, Lagos, NOHL, recently graduated 206 nurses from its Post Basic
Orthopaedic Nursing and Post Basic Accident and Emergency Nursing
Programmes.
Speaking during the 11thconvocation ceremony, Medical Director, NOHL,
Dr. Olurotimi Odunnubi, who explained that the graduates were already
qualified nurses that have come into the school to sub-specialize in
Post Basic Orthopaedic Nursing and Accident and Emergency Programmes.
Odunnubi, who said the training would help meet requirements during
disaster situations, noted that NOHL was focusing more on training and
encouraging sub-specialization for orthopaedic surgeons.
He observed that with the increasing rate of accident and emergency
cases in the country, there was an overwhelming societal need to reduce
the mortality and morbidity. NOHIL Management Board Chairman, Dr. Gbola
Adetunji, said: “Nurses have gone beyond the role of caregivers to
become key integrators, care coordinators and efficient experts who are
